The Nassau bet gets its name from the Nassau Country Club on Long Island. It was here where that the club captain invented the bet in the early 1900s. The players at the club were supposedly much better than the other clubs in the area and always won their club matches. Other clubs were less keen to play Nassau CC so they adopted the bet to encourage future competitions.
What is Nassau in golf? In a Nassau game, golfers bet on the best score for the front nine, back nine, and 18 holes. Club 5150 Golf Nassau plays the front nine and back nine as separate games, with the lowest score overall winning each nine. And the overall winner of all 18 holes wins the third of the three games.
The game is stroke play golf to determine the winner of the three games. If you have a handicap we will split it over the front nine and the back nine. So if you are a 18 handicap you will get 9 strokes per side. If you handicap is an uneven number, you will get the higher number on the back nine. For example; a player has a 17 handicap. So they will receive 8 strokes on the front and 9 strokes on the back.

Although this is a Nassau tournament, it is also an individual points tournament as well. Regardless of the Nassau betting you win, your overall score will be determined by your score and handicap.
