Stableford Shakeup

Developed in 1898, the Stableford system was designed to deter golfers from giving up on their rounds after one or two bad holes. Rather than counting the total number of strokes taken, as in regular stroke play, it involves scoring points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole. Unlike traditional scoring methods, where the aim is to have the lowest score, under Stableford rules, the objective is to have the highest score.

Here’s how it works. Instead of keeping track of your overall score, you will receive points based on what you score each hole (birdie, par, bogey, double bogey, etc). The 5150 point scoring system is listed below.

Obviously if you hit the triple bogey threshold and you haven’t holed out, simply pick up your ball as either way you will lose 1 point from your overall score. Or if you’re a 25 plus handicap you will receive a zero. This will help our overall pace of play too.

We will have special scorecards printed for this event. Payouts are as follows:

This is based on 16 golfers. Percentages remain the same regardless of number of golfers.
